Video killed the radio star, but who killed the radio station in L.A.?

A month or two back I was sickened to learn that yet another radio station that I liked was biting the dust. http://indie1031.fm/ Indie, a station that I had heard and watched grow was going away after about a 5 year run. It was like loosing a friend. No longer there for me on my morning commute, or my afternoon ride home. Gone were the varied play lists and various shows that had comforted me through the years. Now we (the rock lovers) are left with a station or two that play the same 15-20 songs a day, and it isn't right...it just isn't right. For an audience that is so massive I find it hard to believe that we have been left with so few options. It's amazing how many great bands there are out there that never get heard over the airwaves. Indie 103.1 changed that, even if only for a brief period in time. I thank them for broadening my musical tastes. Variety truly is the spice of life. Though still able to listen via the Internet, I do miss them everyday in my car. Another notch in the post of good stations gone.

-Indie 103.1
-Y107
-Groove 103.1
-Mars
-KNAC 105.5
-Pirate Radio 100.3

  1. It's a total frickin' crime I say. I still remember the moment KNAC went off the air. I was sitting in the cab of my Ford Ranger (you remember the brown one?) in the carpark of Cal State Fullerton. I can almost picture the exact space I was in too.

The countdown to shutdown drew closer and closer, and then all of a sudden our precious hard rock icon was replaced by a Spanish-speaking radio station.

Nothing wrong with Spanish-speaking radio mind you; it's just not KNAC.

You did know that they've got a website now though didn't you? http://www.knac.com/Great radio doesn't die, it just goes underground, or online.

    Keep the faith, brother!

  2. I remember where I was as well. I had just gotten finished working at the library in Seal. They played fade to black from Metallica. It was a sad day. I have visited the KNAC website, (however their playlist at least when I listened was all new bands and pretty heavy stuff) did not seem much like the station I remember. I found the same to be true about indie's site. Maybe I just need to give them more of a chance.
